from Phil. Daily Inquirer.

Ban Motorcycle - Gordon

Baguio City - In the wake of reports that most assassins use motorcycles and are never caught, Sen. Richard Gordon said he had filed a bill seeking to ban motorcycles that lack identification from the streets. In a press forum here on Friday, Gordon said the bill aslo seeks to require motorcycle drivers to wear helmets that bear the vehicle's plate number and driver's name. "Nobody can ride a motorcycle without a written plate number and name on the helmet. So if there is a driver who is running his motorcycle without his helmet, we can stop him and ask 'Do you have a gun?' if he does not meet the requirements, then he has a violation," he said.

if proper logic will be followed then we will have to paint all the cars with plate numbers on the sides like the taxis plus have the name of the registered owner painted too........

Same old story. Incompetent law enforcement - dream up crazy schemes that wont work. Punish the innocent and cause all sorts of problems for them while the real criminals sit back and laugh at the show.

Motorcycle related tourism would be killed permanently by the guy who once promoted tourism.

If you borrow a bike you would either have to use the owner's helmet (that probably would not fit) or buy another helmet and ruin it by painting numbers on it. If you change your bike you have to buy a new helmet(s) or paint over the old number and repaint the new number on your helmet(s). If you have more than one bike you will need multiple helmets and only wear the correct helmet for each bike. The paint would almost certainly seriously effect the strength of the helmet thereby putting riders at greater risk.

I think its time we started proposing similar schemes for other vehicles.

Car drivers should wear hats with their plate number clearly marked on both sides so we can see if they maybe stole the vehicle to do a robbery. If they are not wearing a matching hat they can be stopped and asked if they are carrying a gun.

Ban all jeepneys, and tricycles because they are the main cause of traffic congestion.

Ban all diesel vehicles because diesel vehicles are the vehicles most often used to cause polution that probably kills more people than crooks on bikes.

Buses should only run at the same times as the trucks because they are similar vehicles, they cause a lot of congestion and polution and average about 170 times more accidents per vehicle than bikes. They definitely kill far more people than crooks on bikes so they should be banned anyway.

Pedestrians should wear hats with their name and address clearly marked on both sides so when they cause accidents by jay walking we would know who they are.

Of course we could instead ask why the law enforcement people are incapable of enforcing the law and try to do something about it. We could even ask the motorcycle community for help instead of sh!tting on them at every opportunity. We could ask why so many MMDA, PNP and other traffic related officers just stand around watching and doing nothing while drivers blatently break the law. But that would be asking too much. It is much easier to blame the bikers because they can't fight back - or can they?

There is some light. This is not properly announced yet but the MCPF has been formally requested by the Office of the President to prepare a policy paper for motorcycle use incentives. At last the government are starting to seriously listen to us. Of course that doesn't mean they will actually do anything but it is a huge step forward.

Another little dick being a big dick!

Goes to show the level of education these politicians have. If I remember correctly, Dick Gordon was a biker, and during the BMW Motorrad launch here in the Philippines, he headed the motorcade without a helmet. He almost dropped the bike too. The problem they don't want to address is Police visibility. What's the use in having so many laws when there are no cops around to arrest the crooks! The Full-Face Ban, Backrider Ban, and this new one shows how reactionary and stupid these lawmakers are. Pretty soon, they'll require us to file a flight plan for everytime we ride our bikes. The growing discrimination of motorcycles is very anti-poor and selective. These issues will have to be addressed before they get enacted into law or it'll be a bitch trying to reverse these rulings.

Lightbulb ban senator gordon!!!

Taxes are being paid to support the goverment in servicing its citizens and yet, they can only give us a kind of service that are not even sought. Please correct me if I'm wrong, mc riders are also tax payers. And these "Lowmakers" just showed us that they are only capable of imposing laws/ordinances that are against tax payers. A Fullface Ban, Backrider Ban, and this new one will never protect any Juan dela Cruz from harm!!! How incompetent can you be? And since you can't do your job, why not lessen the taxes and give us the right/permit to carry guns and shoot the bad guys to protect ourselves and our loved ones!

two words for you mr. senator - DICK head! :i

OT: Definition of Tax - burdensome or excessive demand

guys, let us give the dick some breathing space...

remember he is a politician (translation = no brains, greedy, "buwaya"), and he is a businessman. what better combination than a self-serving, self-righteous, ambitious idiot! the same with most of the politicians we have now who, in the pursuit of staying on top of the headlines, introduce ridiculous and senseless laws and policies insensitive to the needs of the people!

I diligently pay my taxes, instead of getting safer roads, safer streets, better services and other essentials aimed in improving the quality of life, i get slapped with laws as stupid as this!

maybe the dick would be producing his own line of helmets and helmet-specific paints /aerosols thus he is pushing for this bill... crazy, but with the kind of politics and politicians that we have now, this is not far from happening!

I think we are all fed up with this problem.

The problem is due to those crooks that use motorcycle as means of transportation to do their crimes. We must not sit down and just let them ruin further our image as motorcycle riders; we should address this problem ASAP! Or else there will again be more bills and ordinances against us that may or can be filed by those double faced ignorant politicians and public servants(kuno) who discriminates us.

We as a biker community should launch an effective legal campaign (anything in any form or actions) that will make those motorcycle riding crooks think twice before they use motorcycle as means of transportation for their crimes. We must fight them now before it’s too late.

This requires collective effort from all off us. Suggestions my fellow bikers…

I think there is no need for a new bill, it's supposed to be a law already.

And kung masamang loob nga talaga yung hihintuin nila, palagay ba nila hihinto nga yun at makakapagtanong pa sila ng 'Do you have a gun?' Sheesh!

i think its ok, BAN THE MOTORCYCLE THAT LACK IDENTIFICATION from the streets. but to put a written plate number or a name on the helmet? exaggerated naman yun. my thread na rito na STICKER a NO-NO to ZEUS helmet. i started it a long ago, na ang ZEUS helmet ay hindi pwedeng pinturahan o lagyan ng stickers (di ko lam sa ibang helmet) so ibig sabihin kahit delikado sa rider pipilitin nila lagyan? o dapat bumili ng ibang helmet na pwede pinturahan o lagyan ng sticker.
